Why is my electric oven not heating?

A faulty thermostat or temperature sensor

If food takes far longer than the recipe states, bakes unevenly or burns despite a modest temperature setting, the oven may be operating at the wrong temperature rather than failing completely. A damaged seal is more likely to cause heat loss and inefficient cooking than a completely cold oven, but it still matters. Excess heat escaping around the door can make cooking unreliable and place unnecessary strain on the appliance.
If there is a burning smell, sparking, smoke, a loud bang, repeated tripping or visible damage, turn the oven off and do not use it. These symptoms need prompt professional attention.
What you can do safely before booking a repair
You do not need to diagnose the exact part before calling for help. A few clear observations are more useful than trying to remove panels or source components yourself. Note the oven make and model if available, the selected setting, whether the display and light work, and whether the grill or fan behaves differently.
Also consider when the fault began. Did it happen after a power cut, during cooking, or gradually over several weeks? Did the oven trip when switched on? Is it heating but taking much longer than normal? Those details can point towards a heating element, thermostat, timer setting or control fault.
Do not continue using an oven that is overheating, tripping, producing unusual smells or showing signs of damage. Switching to another cooking method temporarily is safer than repeatedly testing a suspect appliance.
